Tongue and Booger

One of the stories that is often passed around at Murphy gathering's is the Tongue and Booger story. I don't tell it as good as Paul, but basically all the brothers used to play this game called tongue and booger. They would go to the basement and put the familie's sleeping bags over their heads and run around trying to knock each other down. I guess this was a kind of game of tag -- their was one large double sleeping bag that was red, the others were green. The tongue therefore tried to tag the boogers. Only problem was they couldn't see where they were going, and kept running into the poles in the basement!!

The Paint Lady

No family history blog would be complete without the story about the paint lady. Well she really wasn't a "paint lady", she just happened to be the poor women who waited on my Mom at Sears. This was back in the 1970's when bright colors were REALLY in. I decided that I wanted my room painted bright lime green. Kinda makes me cringe now to think that I painted my room that color, but what can I say it was the 70s. I also wore bell bottom pants, but I digress. Anyhow, Mom decided to paint my room, and we go to Sears and pick out a most glaring bright green paint, and Mom paints my room. It is an exceedingly dark color and needs a second coat. However, the paint we bought only was enough to paint the room one and a half times, so back to Sears we go. Once back home Mom paints the last half of the room, and the paint color doesn't look exactly the same, but we figure it is because that last half is still wet. Next morning the paint is dry, but it is defintely TWO different colors. Mom is MAD -- that damn paint lady mixed the wrong color. We go back to Sears, and the lady who mixed the paint is working again that day. Mom lets her have it. I'm sure we ended up with free paint or something, but I know we must have scarred the poor woman for life, but she never ever worked in the paint department again. She still worked at Sears, but always in a different department, and I swear when she saw us coming she would hide!! So now when ever something gets messed up at a store we always say "Remember the Paint Lady!"

Jay wants the computer, so I'm off until tomorrow. It's Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I'm sure I'll have plenty to write about, but if I don't I think I'll write about the famous Murphy game booger and tongue!

New Blog

I've been wanting to chronicle family stories for awhile now, and keeping thinking I should start typing them up. My grandmother had written down many family stories, and just details about her life as a young girl. Many were really simple things like what her house looked like, or life on the prairie. A couple a days ago I had the great idea of starting a blog about Murphy, Wallace and Dickey family stories.

So here I go. I'm going to write them down as I remember them, with help from family members. Names won't be changed to protect the innocent -- can't change family history, now could I. So if you don't like what's written about you, well, all I can say isn't you shouldn't have done it!!!
